ADVANCED ENERGY COMMUNITY
The Advanced Energy Community project provides the opportunity for residents in the Avocado Heights/Bassett area to make their home more efficient to reduce energy use, and to purchase solar energy from a community-scale solar project, to create a community in which enough local energy is produced to meet local needs. The project is a collaborative planning process between UCLA, The Energy Coalition, Los Angeles County Supervisor District 1, and Day One. This Advanced Energy Community is designed to provide direct health and financial benefits to participating residents, building owners in the community of Avocado Heights/Bassett. These efforts are made possible by funding from the California Energy Commission.
APPROACH
COMMUNITY SOLARAllows residents access to purchase renewable energy, eliminating the use of fossil fuels that cause climate change. This is especially beneficial to residents of multi-family buildings, renters, and others who cannot install solar on their own rooftops for various reasons.

ENERGY EFFICIENCYReducing the energy wasted in heating and cooling our homes is the best way to reduce electricity use. By creating a more energy efficient home, less energy is required to keep the same comfortable indoor temperature.
|
ENERGY STORAGEEnergy storage systems use battery technologies to store electricity generated from solar panels or other sources for later use. Residents and building owners will have opportunities to install advanced energy storage technologies that provide safe backup power and improve reliability of the local grid.
